Boots were created to give comfort and protection to not only the foot but the ankle as well. Steel toe boots give extra needed protection to the toe area. Boots are used for everything from extra toe protection in construction jobs to battle dress uniforms for the men and women in the service.

There are many different types of boots. Some are called Waders, Anglers and Gumboots. In some sub cultures laces are used in boots to portray particular messages. At one time dock martin boots were adopted by skinheads and punk rockers as typical parts of their fashion but now they moved on to becoming more mainstream fashion. Often times boots are compared to their owners giving way to the old saying comparing someone to being “tough as boots.” In some subcultures the color of the laces of boots has particular meanings. In some subcultures yellow laces mean peace while red laces are a symbol of hatred and racism.

As of today these kinds of boots have become much more mainstream with the meanings of the laces not really carrying as much social weight as they once did due to the ignorance of the meaning of boots laces of their wearers. Boots are frequently used in many different kinds of work because they give protection to the feet ankle and toe areas more adequately than simple shoes can and can endure the elements for much longer, as to where simple shoes would be used up and destroyed. Boots typically have a heel allowing for extra support on the arch of the foot that most typical shoes simply do not provide. Steel toe boots give an extra amount of protection by putting a layer of steel inside the boot over the toes. This allows for heavy objects to hit the wearers foot without causing any pain or damage. The adverse side to this is if the steel toe gets hit in just the right angle it can injure it’s wearer.

Boots are typically used in heavy maintenance type work and used in environments that would simply be too harsh too harsh for other shoes to endure. Typically boots also have support in the back behind the heel that allow the wearer the same kind of foot protection that the steel toe provides for the toes in front. These kinds of boots also prevent the wearer from stubbing his or her toe accidentally on things like upturned stones or left out parts that may be left inside a construction zone. This allows the wearer to work in comfort without having to constantly watch out for the safety of his or her own feet. This means that the worker is more capable of paying attention to the task at hand and doesn’t have to bog down his or her mind with this particular detail.
